What I Keep Reaching For (And What It's Telling Me)

Once the list was actually in front of me, something clicked I wasn’t expecting.

It’s the Vienna pant, obviously — in black, in white, in last year’s Caper. The Savannah skirt. A top from 2018 I never quite let go of, and still get a compliment on every single time I wear it. The Kyoto shirt, in both colors I own it in. The Casablanca dress, because apparently I love wearing a dress more than I give myself credit for. The Verona vest, on repeat.

I expected that list to tell me about my taste. It told me something else.

Every piece on it is natural fiber. Every piece moves with me instead of fighting me — nothing structured enough to get in the way on a day that starts at the studio and ends at the gym. And every one earns its place because of how it feels against my skin, not just how it looks in the mirror. I’ve noticed I’m almost particular about that lately — if a fabric isn’t right, I feel it within the hour, and it comes off.

That’s information.

Mine told me something less comfortable, too: almost everything on it is quiet. Neutral. Built to disappear into itself so a different pair of earrings or a different scarf can tell a whole new story. That’s genuinely who I am — but if I’m honest, it’s also a closet that’s been playing it safe in a way the rest of my life hasn’t been lately.

So here’s where three days of this has landed me: a real capsule isn’t ten pieces someone else picked for you. It’s whatever your hands already keep reaching for, read carefully, once you let yourself actually notice the pattern. Mine is telling me I need ease, I need natural fiber against my skin — and I need, finally, to let a little color back in.

If you’re pulling your own list alongside me and wondering what it’s actually saying, that’s exactly what day three walks through.
